Associate Engineer's Forum

It is a common practice in the whole world and even in Pakistan that every profession has its own platforms (Councils, Organizations, Committees….) to discuss their problem & issues and find its solutions. They also give their suggestions and recommendations to the government for the betterment of the system and the welfare of their own community. As Doctors, Engineers, Teachers, Lawyers, Nurses and Clerks have their platforms. Although Associate Engineers are in a huge number in Pakistan and are well educated but unfortunately Associate Engineers Community yet has not any single platform. That’s why they are being ignored while making any type of technical, industrial or employment policy. Even they are entitled to a very lower BPS grade in government departments.

How to Eliminate Unemployment from Pakistan?

Government of Pakistan can take a revolutionary step offering interest free loans to educated technicians to set up their own businesses. It will develop cottage industry in Pakistan which is a hub of any industrial country. These small industries will not only give respectable earning source to educated technicians but many others will also get employment through this. In this way we can give support to our feeble economy.

In Japan 90%, in Germany 60% while in Pakistan only 15% technicians started their own business after completing their study due to the lack of investment and any support by government in this regard.

In China 80 percent and in Bangladesh 20 percent industries are giving On Site Trainings, while in Pakistan only 8 percent industries offer on site training. Government should make laws and encourage industries to arrange On Plant Training, In Industry Training and Apprenticeships for fresh technical graduates. So they can get practical experience which will give base to students for getting proper jobs.

According to a report of Economic Survey of Pakistan, there are only 1522 technical institutes in Pakistan in which 1140 are public sector while remaining 382 are private sector institutes. 314188 total students are enrolled in these institutes while only 60 to 70 thousand students are passed out each year. These passing out technicians didn’t fulfill countries requirement. So number of technical institutes should be increased to get more technical and skilled manpower.

If you have any suggestion about eliminating unemployment from Pakistan, please share your thoughts in the comments.

Salary Conflict between Technicians and Engineers

In all the developed countries, pay package of Doctors, Engineers and Technicians is almost same with a very minor and ignorable difference. But in Pakistan an Engineer gets almost double to triple pay than an Associate Engineer. And it is sufficiently many times more than other technicians who have other technical and vocational education usually 02 years and 01 year diplomas of their specific fields. And in some industries a fresh technician hardly gets wages equal to a laborer.

It is not said that their should be equal salaries for engineers, technicians and skilled persons, but it is suggested that the difference should be reduced. High salary differences caused a brain drain of Pakistani Technicians to Europe, Canada, Australia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait etc resulting huge loss to Pakistani economy and industry.

In multinational companies operating in Pakistan, an Associate Engineer gets salary from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 150,000 per month. In developed countries and even in Arab Countries, a Pakistani Associate Engineer is earning from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 400,000 per month. But in Pakistan it is hard for a fresh Associate Engineer to earn for his livings. Normal pay package for a fresh Associate Engineer is from Rs. 7,000 to 15,000. Is it not injustice?

Government of Pakistan should raise wages of technical work force.
